Program Description

The graduate certificate in human resource management is a 12-credit stand-alone program that is transcribable across institutions and professions. That means your certificate is recognized and respected in the human resources industry.

Course curriculum provides you with the theory and application information necessary to integrate your human resource role with the strategic goals of an organization to effectively manage people in our global and dynamic marketplace. The certificate program emphasizes developing the necessary skills to strategically manage, train, and develop human resources for enhanced organizational performance.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the strategic role of human resources in facilitating the accomplishment of an organization’s mission, goals, and objectives through the creation of aligned organizational systems and practices.
  • Understand the principles and values associated with creating high performance and high trust work systems within a rapidly changing global environment.
  • Develop the skills required to measure organizational performance and create human resource systems essential for monitoring, improving, and rewarding performance consistent with an organization’s culture.
  • Identify the global issues affecting human resource management and develop the skills to address complex issues associated with effectively managing people in a global context.

Courses

The human resource management graduate certificate consists of four three-credit courses:

  • HRM520: Managing Performance for Results

    Understand the design and execution of successful management and processes. Examine utilization and outcomes of performance appraisals, compensation, and training effectiveness.

  • HRM522: Human Resource Planning

    Examine the cross-cultural issues in managing organization behavior. From a global management perspective, explore bargaining behavior, recruitment, selection, training, and compensation issues.

  • HRM516: Effective Labor Management

    Analyze the collective bargaining process and the impact of public policy on industrial relations. Understand the administrative functions of human resource management and the field of labor relations.

  • HRM500: Managing Human Resources

    Analyze the implications of the recruitment, staffing, evaluation and development of employees in the strategic management of a high performance workforce. Examine the economics of labor and the effects of legislative and legal decisions in the administration and management of employees.
